We also work on confidence-building and appropriate socialisation, helping puppies learn to navigate new experiences calmly and safely. Alongside the practical training, we offer guidance on common challenges such as jumping up.

This is a 9-week course held at Nettlestead Village Hall for £100.

Our Beginner Class is ideal for older puppies and adult dogs who are new to training or need to strengthen their foundation skills. Using positive, reward-based methods, we focus on everyday behaviours that make life easier at home and on walks, including recall, loose-lead walking, stays, settle work and impulse control.

The class also helps dogs learn to focus around distractions, build confidence in new environments and develop good manners both on and off lead. Alongside practical exercises, we support owners with guidance on common challenges such as jumping up, over-excitement and improving engagement.

Taught in a friendly, supportive environment, our Beginner Class aims to give owners clear, achievable steps and dogs the skills they need to progress calmly and confidently.

This is a 9-week course held at Nettlestead Village Hall for £100.

Our Advanced Class is designed for dogs who already have solid foundation skills and are ready to take their training further. We focus on improving reliability, control and responsiveness in real-life situations, working around increasing levels of distraction and challenge.

Exercises include advanced recall, extended stays, off-lead work, distance cues and stronger impulse control. We also introduce problem-solving activities and confidence-building tasks to keep dogs engaged and mentally stimulated. This class is ideal for owners who want to continue developing their dog’s skills or prepare for more demanding environments.

Taught in a supportive and encouraging setting, our Advanced Class helps dogs and handlers work as a confident, consistent team.

Our 121 sessions offer tailored support for dogs and owners who would benefit from individual guidance. Whether you're working on specific training goals, addressing particular challenges or simply prefer a personalised approach, these sessions provide focused time to work at your own pace.

Led by our Head Trainer, Katy, each session is designed around your dog’s needs and your training aims. We can cover anything from foundation skills and confidence building to loose-lead walking, recall or learning to settle at home. Training takes place at a suitable location of your choosing within Maidstone and the surrounding areas, allowing us to work in real-life environments that support your dog’s progress.

121 training offers clear, practical coaching and dedicated support to help you and your dog achieve meaningful, lasting improvements.

A 90-minute 121 session costs £100.

Alongside our core classes at BlackDogTan Training School, Katy also runs Golden Paws Dog Training, offering additional daytime training opportunities for owners who prefer weekday sessions.

Golden Paws holds group classes on Tuesday daytime and Thursday daytime, providing the same positive, supportive approach in a relaxed weekday setting. These sessions are ideal for owners looking to continue their dog’s training, build new skills or maintain progress between courses.

We also run Saturday workshops, covering a variety of topics such as recall, loose-lead walking, neutrality classes and practical life skills. These workshops offer focused training in specific areas and are a great way to further develop your dog’s abilities.
